Folayan Williams’ road to homeownership has been bumpy to say the least. The young mother of four was well on her way to homeownership in 2018 when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.

After undergoing treatment, she was able to return to NeighborWorks® Columbus to continue the process, but, just as she was about to close on a home, Covid-19 hit.

Despite the obstacles, Folayan was able to close on her home this June.

“Being able to have that space, that peace of mind, while quarantining has been great,” she said. “I’ve been able to zone in on quality time with family and just being appreciative of not having to worry about anything other than my own space.”

Safe, fit, affordable housing has never been more important.

Many of us have spent more time than ever in our homes—working and even educating our children.

Some are fighting health battles.

For those of us fortunate enough to have a safe and affordable home, we’ve had one less thing to worry about in these troubling times.

Unfortunately, in Columbus there is a shortage of affordable housing, but you can help change that.

Despite Covid-19, NeighborWorks® Columbus has been able to continue its homeownership process and services through 2020 by:

  • Creating virtual models of our homeownership process, including client intake, financial counseling, and lending.
  • Continuing new construction and home renovation projects, despite material shortages and rising costs.
  • Providing affordable rentals for 32 families with no evictions, despite job losses some of our clients faced this year.
  • Pre-leasing for Highland Terrace, which will provide low-income seniors affordable housing options.

NeighborWorks® Columbus needs your support to continue to help hard-working people like Folayan secure safe, fit, affordable housing. Together, we can expand access to quality homes that don’t break the budget—giving families one less thing to worry about.
